Paper Fall Wreath

I thought the second one would go much faster. </p> <p>Well. It was. Kinda. ;)</p> <p>No really, it was <em>much</em> faster. It was still time consuming, but the fact that it cost less than $5 made it totally worth it. </p> <p>Can I get a <em>WHOO</em>?!</p> <p>I didn’t have a form for this wreath, so I improvised. In the photo I saw, they cut the noodle at an angle at both ends and then taped it together, but I just put end to end and taped it with duct tape. </p> <p>Cost = FREE. ;)</p> <p>And if you don’t have one, they cost about a buck at the dollar store (although I’m not sure if there’s any left right now). </p> <p>I found some fun fallish fabric at Hob Lob a few weeks ago, and just got a bit of it. I realized very quickly it way going to take EONS if I kept that up, so I started spreading them out a bit more. </p> <p>Then half way in I realized using more of the larger circles and less of the smaller ones meant it would go even faster, so you can see how I used more of the large ones on the right. </p> <p>Whatever. </p> <p>It adds interest and dimension. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. </p> <p>I took a few hours total, most of which were spent sitting in front of the TV, so I’m not complaining. Our new backyard!

But our landscaper worked with us and we figured out a way to make it happen. </p> <p>And we are SO GLAD we did. It just makes the whole space – it’s the focal point, no doubt!</p> <p>They used a travertine stone on the hearth and for the details on the front, instead of the brick on the sample we saw. We had the drain spout put under the ground – which makes hubby VERY happy. He moved that thing <em>every single time</em> he mowed. ;)</p> <p>They planted a winding row of burning bushes, which I LOVE, between our trees, and then a couple large arborvitae at the end for privacy. But they look so custom with the bullnosed detail around the bottom. </p> <p>We planned all along to put the grill down on the patio, but in the end hubs wanted to keep it up on the deck. That is simply because we just had to stop! (Our bank account was starting to freak out a little. OK, <em>a lot</em>. ;) ) We’ll budget for that next year. It’s just LOVELY as a firewood holder. :)</p> <p>The massive mums were a <strong>STEAL</strong> – my BFF and I found out one of the local fruit farms offers $5 mums if you dig them up yourself. We got HUGE plants for so cheap – usually this size would cost (at least) $30! I plan to plant them later and we’ll see how they do next year. </p> <p>I just love mums. I just love fall. We have been so spoiled by all the green space and privacy. The Deck Reveal!

Our outdoor spaces are finally wrapping up and we are THRILLED. The mulching was finished today, and a few minor patio projects are being finished up this week. I’ll show you that as soon as I get it cleaned up, but for now, I’m excited to share our deck space! </p> <p>Warning: Picture overload. Don’t say I didn’t tell ya. ;)</p> <p>It started when we decided to do the patio – we knew it was time to restain the deck and get that under control as well. It was looking OH so sad – when we had the deck built six years ago, we made the BIG mistake of staining it immediately after it was built. </p> <p>The deck builder came by the day after we finished to tell us we weren’t supposed to do that. Which was AWESOME. Pressure treated wood shouldn’t be stained right away. Which would have been AWESOME to know. ;)</p> <p>Have I mentioned our deck is about 800 square feet? Yes. We spent two whole days staining just to find out we weren’t supposed to do what we just did. </p> <p>Live and learn. So after all that time, and because we stained before we should have (you should wait at least a few months to stain – now we know), it was in bad shape. </p> <p>To make a very long story short – we were going to clean, prep and stain the entire thing over again ourselves. That was all fine and dandy until after about five hours of cleaning the railings and <em>wanting to poke my eyes out</em>. And I wasn’t even half way done. </p> <p>That’s when we realized we had to decide where to dedicate our time – and we decided to hire out. I could have cried I was so happy! Did I mention<em> 800</em> square feet – and that does not include the railings? </p> <p>Happy dance. </p> <p>The stain the company used isn’t what I wanted – at all. I wanted our deep red deck again, but that’s not how it turned out. I found them at a local nursery (for $7 each)and they are <em>as big as my head</em>! BIGGER. I love these things. And the mums were on clearance at Lowe’s for a buck each – not sure why but I’m not complaining. :)</p> <p>I don’t show the <strong>beast</strong> on our deck very often, but we do have a hot tub. It’s not the prettiest thing, but it is pretty darn awesome. We would have made it flush, but it has a stereo system (I know! Fancy schmancy! Every time I tell hubby that, he just smiles the “I told you so” smile. It’s like two pillows in one – for $4! The garden lights are so much softer and prettier. :)</p> <p>I got the light strands (I used two) at Target last spring, hoping I could figure out a way to use them.
