How To Make a Spring Wreath

In fact, I considered it. Then I realized that action might land me in a rubber cell ~ so I thought I'd forgo the snowbank, and move forward like a sane person, as if Spring has Sprung. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I talked myself down off the proverbial snowbank... <i>"The clocks are moving ahead, it's MARCH, Easter is right around the corner... Things aren't too bad!"</i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">So as cooler heads prevailed, in my first effort to Spring Forward with the clocks, I grabbed a chocolate chip cookie and a cup of coffee, and made this easy wreath using:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"></div><ul><li>Grapevine wreath</li><li>Strand of silk flowers </li><li>Burlap Flowers (hand made) </li><li>Burlap</li><li>Hot Glue</li><li>Pizza Box Lid</li><li>Twine</li><li>Acrylic Craft Paint</li></ul>First, I attached the flowers to one side of the wreath, using a little hot glue. My favorite color is yellow, so that's the only reason I chose these flowers. E. double toothpicks </i>out of here), I used the cardboard from the lid of a pizza box. Oh yuh, <i>classy as usual!</i><br /><br />I painted the "K" black with craft paint and outlined it with a little twine. Of course, to save yourself this time, you could just buy a letter from a craft store for 99 cents!<br /><br />Once I attached the K ~ voila! Can't feel your fingers cold. And guess what. I still have a summer wreath on my back door. Yeah. While I was watching the snow in the air this morning, it dawned on me - perhaps it's time to retire the sunflower wreath. <br /><br />But, since it's so cold - the kind of day you just want to curl up on the sofa, with a cup of coffee, and watch Long Island Medium re-runs (maybe that's just me?). I decided to <em>at least</em> take that summery wreath down. But once I took it down, I realized I wanted to get into the spirit of things. Sometimes that just happens. Just when I was getting my lazy on. <br /><br />Ergo, the little man and I were on a mission. <span style="font-size: x-small;">(Sometimes you've got to use a word like ergo, don't you think?) </span>Okay, maybe this was my mission, but my guy's always game for heading outside. Especially for a pine cone gathering mission. Armed with our Wegman's bags, gloves and hats, we clomped out to the woods in our boots. <br /><br />Half an hour later we had a bag full of pine cones (and dirt). Score!<br /><br />As mentioned, the pine cones were dirty, and wet, from lying on the ground in the woods for centuries. So I put them on top of the heat registers around the house. <em>Big A loves when I do this - when you step on them, it's almost exactly the same as stepping on a lego.</em> After a few hours the heat dries out the pine cones, and makes them all nice and fluffy. If a pine cone can be <em>fluffy</em>.  (I know there are ways to dry pine cones and de-bugify them, but is all I did was stick them on the registers. I live on the edge.)<br /><br />Once they were all dried, it was time for my <em>evil</em> <em>plan...</em><br /><br />I used a grapevine wreath, which I love on their own, so I decided to cover only part of the wreath. I wrapped a strip of burlap around the bottom 1/3 of the wreath, and glued the pine cones onto the burlap. Honestly, I didn't have a plan. (Of course!) <br /><br />And, voila! We're ready for the snow! I love grapevine wreaths, because they look nice all on their own. With the addition of some (fake) flowers and a little ribbon, you have a great new wreath. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">A couple of days ago it was a hot as blazes kinda day, but raining. The kids were out, Big A was working and there was nothing to do, so I had to find <em>something</em> to amuse me! (This is when I get into trouble - more on this later). Lucky for my husband, I stayed away from the mall, and headed straight to AC Moore and the dollar store! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">AC Moore had 18" grape vine wreaths on sale for $2.99, so I snapped one up, and headed to the dollar store, where I bought a garland of sunflower blooms for, well, a dollar!  A little hot glue and a ribbon, and voila. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Then, because it was still raining, and I was still bored, I inevitably managed to get into said trouble. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">(This is a cautionary tale...)</span> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I have fairly long (to my mid-back) blond hair. I dry it, curl it, and straighten it. It's not in the best condition, but that's what conditioner is for, right?</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Because I was still bored after making my wreath, I decided to straighten my hair, and realized I had, well, ahem, uh... dark roots. Furthermore, I had no time or money to go get my hair done before we leave for our camping trip. So, I grabbed a box of, uh, well, ahem, uh...  blond hair dye. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">"How bad can it be?" I asked myself. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">"Not bad at all" I reassured myself.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">So, as per the directions in the box, I slathered the hair color on the roots ONLY. And waited the 25 minutes. So far so good. Easy. But boring. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Next, I put the rest of the color all over my hair, and the box said "<em>wait</em> <em>5 minutes".</em> That's what you are <em>supposed</em> to do.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Here's what you are <em>NOT supposed</em> to do: </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">You are not supposed to squish the dye all over your head, and then decide to call your sister. You do not do that <em>because you know 5 minutes is not long enough</em>. You know that because you and your sister can <em>easily talk for hours.</em> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">After I finally hung up (only because my iphone dropped the call), I realize the timer went off 10 minutes ago. So I quickly rinsed my hair. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I didn't realize there was a problem until I tried to dry my hair - and couldn't run a brush through it. I thought, "this could be a problem". </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">And I was right. I jumped in the car and drove as fast as was reasonably safe to the nearest, open, hairdresser. My hair was fried.
