My son said that Matisse had a great mind to think of the things he did. Once the print was down and in place, I painted over the top of the print with mod podge, and was careful to keep the brush strokes even. You can use your hands to press out any bubbles. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">It took a couple of hours to dry, and was ready to hang. After thinking about it, I realized that all I really needed was an image from my computer and mod podge. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Here's a list of what I used:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">12" canvas</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Mod Podge</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Jute Rope</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">12" craft paper</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Image (from google images) </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I had all of these things, so this was a totally free upcycle! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><i><b>NOTE:</b> Make your own mod podge using 1/2 glue and 1/2 water. Put the glue and water in a jar with with a tight lid and shake well to combine. I painted over the existing canvas with mod podge and then pressed the paper onto the existing board, and smoothed out any bubbles with my fingers. I then used the mod podge and painted over the top of the craft paper, smoothing any bubbles, and then re-painted for a smooth finish. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">I found an image I found amusing, from a BBQ place, and printed it off on my printer. Framed Sand Dollar - DIY Wall Art

They're so fragile and beautiful. But with 3 clumsy little monsters ~ wait, what? I mean... with 3 beautiful and energetic children ~ it's hard to display sand dollars. In my case it means framing them, or keeping them waaaaay up high!<br /><br />We just returned from an amazing Spring Break on Jekyll Island, Georgia. We have tons of awesome pictures (on FB) from the trip, and lots of fun memories. Many of the sand dollars we find are still alive, and we happily throw them back in the sea. Sometimes we get lucky, and we find a whole dead sand dollar ~ well, lucky for us, not so lucky for the sand dollar.<br /><br />When we find a whole dead sand dollar, we pack them carefully in paper towels and schlep them back to Central New York.<br /><br />They're so breakable they best way I've found to display them is to hang them up, but I'd love any new ideas!<br /><br />For this little sand dollar frame: All I did was use a tiny frame, some burlap, a dot of hot glue and the sand dollar. A mixture of half glue/half water (which is just homemade mod-podge) is the best way to give the sand dollar "shell super powers". Just brush the glue mixture over the sand dollar and allow to dry. This should help reduce breakage. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Now on to a couple of ideas that I found: </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I've got plenty of pillar candles that could be embellished like so. So, I used the same moose head silhouette and traced it onto a piece of burlap. For about a month. On my kitchen counter. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I periodically moved it from spot to spot. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I just couldn't think of what to do with it... I have a lot of pallet wood and could make a frame. I could somehow glue it onto a lampshade. Maybe make a wood sign for outside. I could sew or fabric glue it onto a pillow... </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The indecision finally drove me to make a decision. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I found an old painting from the thrift store for $1.50, it was on canvas but had a rip and was generally in poor condition. I bought it for the frame, but I realized I'm able to use the canvas for the frame. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I decided to cover the canvas, in order to used the frame. So I ripped an old white pillowcase open to fit around the frame of the canvas. (I also painted the side edge of the canvas). As you can see, I didn't do this very carefully. (Shake your groove thang).</i> </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">I "painted" the canvas with mod podge.<br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">I found an old book, and lucky for me, the edges of the pages were yellowed. But with price tags for the real kind in the hundreds of dollars, I realize <br />I'm not going to get one any time soon. <br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">However, I recently read a post by one of my favorite bloggers, Amy at Buffalo Roam <a href="http://buffalo-roam.com/?p=3728">HERE</a>. She printed out animal silhouettes, and painted them on cork board for her little guys room. <em>Brilliant idea!</em> <br /><br />Amy's idea gave me a plan for using a silhouette of an animal head in my home. Not to mention, this was such an easy and fun project, I just wanted to do it! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">The Buck Head is free to print out <a href="http://manmadediy.com/pages/4-downloads">HERE</a>. Or, if you're looking for different silhouettes, <br />just look for free graphics on Pinterest or Google. There are <em>TONS</em>. </div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;">I liked this buck silhouette that Amy linked, so, I printed it out.  I wanted a larger silhouette, but my printer wouldn't allow me to print a larger copy over several pages, so I took the small print and had it blown up at Staples. I toyed with the idea of making him sparkly, but I'm trying to cut down on glitter...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><em>(Painting is not shown - but in my defense - I got side-tracked because </em></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><em>I brewed pot of coffee, but forgot the coffee. Aaaaargh!)</em> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">While waiting for the paint to dry, I sulked a little about the coffee.  Meanwhile, I had the idea to cover the whole canvas with burlap. I checked with Big A, who can be somewhat suspicious of my (sometimes) impulsive ideas, and he actually liked this one! Woot woot! </div><div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">To keep the burlap in place, I used the staple gun, and stapled the burlap in just four places. I then used hot glue on the back side of the canvas, and glued it all around.</div><div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">At this point, because I was caffeine deficient, I thought it would be a good idea to use my bare fingers to press the burlap into the hot glue! I decided to take a break, and stenciled some flowers in gold and black on the canvas. It looked cute, but then I thought about trying to light it up. I took a string of LED twinkle lights and stapled them to the back. Voila!
